Antifreeze protection for float traps
Selecting and installing a suitable trap will not cause freezing problems as long as steam passes through it. However, if the steam is broken, the steam condensate will create a vacuum in the heat exchanger or the associated pipe.
This will prevent condensate from escaping freely from the system before freezing occurs. Therefore, a vacuum breaker is installed between the discharged equipment and the trap.
If gravity is not used from the trap to the return pipe, the trap and drain should be drained manually or automatically using a drain with antifreeze. Also, when multiple traps are installed together in the trap station, keeping the trap warm can prevent freezing.
